Man sentenced to 35 years after multi-vehicle crash that injured 11 in 2016

A man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for evading in a motor vehicle that led to a mutli-vehicle crash, injuring 11 people. 

On July 4, 2016, police were notified that Eloy Salas Jr., 30, was assaulting a women in a Whataburger parking lot. 

Officers responded to the domestic disturbance where Salas led police on a chase. The pursuit was canceled when Salas approached the northbound I-27 entrance ramp, but he continued speeding onto the interstate where he hit a line of cars waiting to exit near Mackenzie Park. 

That's when Salas ran after the wreck and was taken into custody in a nearby alley in the Depot District. 

Two people were seriously injured, and 11 others suffered minor injuries from the wreck.

The jury considered the motor vehicle as a deadly weapon and enhanced his sentenced. Salas will have to serve half of his sentence before he's eligible for parole.
