Smiling bush brings holiday cheer

Posted: Updated:

For years, there has been a smiling bush on the corner of 58th and Indiana. When Tracy Moreno, with Lawn Pros got a hold of it, he decided to up the ante.

"I wanted to make it pop, like really make it stand out," Moreno said.

Allison Robinson is the homeowner. She reached out to Moreno when she needed help taking care of her yard after being diagnosed with stage four cancer.

"It's a way for me to kind of make her smile and at the same time keep the tradition going," Moreno said.

Moreno said he takes this responsibility seriously and doesn't let anyone touch his masterpiece.

"Cause it just takes one little snip in the wrong spot and it will change the whole look of this dude," Moreno said.

With yellow eyes with red lights inside and eyebrows and a nose, The Grinch is complete with a 22 foot round Santa hat on top.

"I know that the Grinch had a mean Grinch kind of look, but after it was all said and done he became a cool Grinch," Moreno said.

It also includes a cut out smile.

"It can always be bigger and better, but you can only cut this bush so much before you really start hurting it," Moreno said.

In the midst of the holiday season, he said it's all about spreading cheer.

"I actually have to put my child hat on and say if I was a kid what would make me go 'mom look, mom look' so that's what it made me feel," Moreno said.

The bush has brought a lot of attention and a ton of letters in the mail to Ms. Robinson. Moreno is already planning on transforming the bush for Valentine's Day.
