UMC delivers food bags to students to fight food insecurity over Christmas break

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

UMC EMS delivered bags of food to children who may not eat otherwise during Christmas break.

The food bags were delivered to students at Brown Elementary Wednesday morning. UMC Employees donated food and raised more than $1,000 for the cause.

Many students are food insecure and this just ensures kids have meals to eat over the holiday. For the last 10 years UMC has partnered with Brown Elementary to provide necessities for kids, like school supplies and clothing. While it's a positive for this Lubbock ISD campus, food insecurity is an issue many kids in our area face.

"We're not the only campus that is in need. So reach out, community partners, reach out to the school district and see if you can help provide services, not just at my campus, but at other campuses. There a lot things that our kids in Lubbock need," Principal Staci Sumners said.

More than 100 food bags were delivered this year.
