LUBBOCK, Texas -

Texas Tech police have arrested a suspect in connection to a sexual assault that happened on campus Dec. 8.

The department tweeted Wednesday the suspect is in custody. He's identified as 17-year-old Dominic Rodriguez.

An off-campus search warrant was executed with the assistance of the Lubbock Police Department, according to Tech police.

On Sunday, Dec. 8, in the early morning hours, an attacker groped a student on the west side of the Coleman residence hall. Police say he was driving a black 4-door passenger car.

Two days later, police reported another woman who said a man tried to sexually assault her in the Wall Gates parking lot. A Tech spokesman said it's not clear if the two cases are related.

Rodriquez is held on a $100,000 bond.

Tech PD released the following statement Wednesday afternoon:

The Texas Tech Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its students, faculty, staff and visitors.  The Texas Tech Police Department encourages campus residents to remain vigilant of their surroundings and to immediately report suspicious activity.
