Be a Santa to a Senior spreads holiday cheer to Lubbock seniors

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Volunteers and care-givers at Home Instead Senior Care delivered presents to Lubbock seniors Tuesday afternoon.

The assisted living center's "Santa for a Senior" program delivered warmth and gifts to seniors who would otherwise be alone or are financially challenged this time of year.

The partnership with Meals on Wheels ensured home-bound clients still felt the love and compassion the season's all about.

"They enjoy receiving the gift, but they also enjoying getting to see someone bring it to their home and get to visit with them. Because many of them are obviously home-bound, but they're also alone," Lisa Gilliand, Executive Director of Lubbock Meals on Wheels, said. "So, seeing that volunteer may be the only person they see that day."

Like the Salvation Army's Angel Tree Program, volunteers adopted these clients, and along with fulfilling the wish-lists, they frequently added other gifts for each one.

450 seniors also received meals for the holidays.
