Cloudy start, mostly sunny

Meteorologist Bobby Johnston said you will feel the difference of temperatures the cold front brought this afternoon with highs only in the 40's. Tonight will even drop into the low 20s, with some temperatures in the teens north of Lubbock.

Senate Democrats want a trial with witnesses

The House is preparing to vote this week on impeaching President Trump. Democrats are accusing him of abusing his power by withholding U.S. military aid and a white house meeting while pressuring Ukraine's President to investigate a potential political rival. In preparation, Senate Democrats are proposing a weeks long Senate trial that would include testimony from former National Security Adviser John Bolton and acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney. 

Open Door partners with Lubbock Housing Authority

Open Door is teaming up with Lubbock Housing Authority to provide people with disabilities a support system with housing. This program will add an additional 25 units to the Lubbock Housing Authority and will be funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Housing Authority's in charge of providing rental assistance and Open Door is responsible for supportive services. For the full story: click here.

Peace talks with Taliban has restarted

President Trump is said to be preparing to announce a long awaited draw down of troops in Afghanistan. Currently between 12,000 and 13,000 U.S. troops are serving in the 18 year war. Trump indicated that the Taliban would now be willing to agree to a ceasefire, but that public pronouncement caught Taliban leaders off guard. The smaller U.S. military presence will be largely focused on counter terrorism operation against Al Qaeda and Isis. 

Democrats push to change Tax Laws

During a mark up session in the Ways and Means Committee, Lubbock Congressman Jodey Arrington railed against a proposal from democrats. The bill would increase the top federal income tax rate by 2.5% starting next year and reduce the dollar amount at which that rate kicks in. The main focus of the bill is to allow taxpayers to write off more state and local taxes. 

Fire at new Texas Rangers stadium

A two alarm fire broke out at the construction site of the Texas Rangers new ballpark in Arlington. Workers said a spark from welding landed on some wood and cardboard debris, which quickly ignited. Arlington Fire Department located and contained the fire in the upper sections of the stadium in 37 minutes.
