LUBBOCK, Texas -

Some Lubbock ISD students are getting hands-on experience in the floral industry.

Once a month United Supermarkets puts on workshops for students. They target primary skills students need to pursue the field. Right now the Byron Martin Advanced Technology Center's program allows students to connect with the Texas State Floral Association and work on getting their certificates.

"So far we're looking at this as a great mutual relationship between the two of us. A lot of my former students have been hired on in their stores," Cassie Sanders, floral design teacher, said. "They're getting great hands on labor and my kids are getting great experience. So we look to keep this partnership going.

Two students are currently interning with the supermarket. Sanders said eight more are signed up for the internship program next semester.
