Two back-to-back attacks have Tech students on edge.
On Sunday, in the early morning hours, an attacker groped a student on the west side of the Coleman residence hall.
"The new cameras on campus, that we put on the dorms, actually caught the suspect. We have a pretty good view of him," Lt. Amy Ives of the TTU police department said.
The attacker is described as a Hispanic man, between the ages of 19 and 22, about 6-feet tall with a small build, with long side-burns and a thin mustache.
Police say he was driving a black 4-door passenger car.
Then just one day later, another incident occurred.
Police say the second victim was in her car in the Wall-Gates parking on Monday night just before 7 P.M. when the suspect approached her, asking for directions. When he attempted to assault her, she was able to get away.
"Know if you're going to sit in your car, or be in the parking lot, keep your doors locked, again know what's going on around you," Lt. Ivey said.
There is no video or pictures of the assailant from Monday night but he is described as a Hispanic man, about 6-feet and 140-pounds with a small build, with facial hair, sideburns, dark hair and eyes. He was wearing a baseball cap, black jeans, dark clothing and a hoodie.
Police have not said if the two incidents were related.
"Just be aware of your surroundings, know what's going on around you, be vigilant if you can, especially during the low-light, nighttime hours. Walk with somebody you know, walk in groups of two, three individuals," Lt. Ivey added.
Today, it is easier to report cases like these than ever before.
"The sexual assaults reported to the university did go up. However, we do have more available resources throughout the years, where students can report sexual assaults, attempted sexual assaults," Lt. Ivey said.
Campus police are working with both Lubbock PD and the U.S. Marshal's task force to solve these cases.
