Texas Tech women's tennis players Lisa Mays and Nell Miller earned their first pro doubles title on Saturday afternoon at the Norman Open, winning in three sets in the final.
Mays and Miller dropped Carmen and Ivana Corley in three sets in the tournament doubles finals to finish off a 4-0 week at the event. The Texas Tech duo took the first set, 7-6(4), before the Corleys responded with a 6-4 win of their own in the second set. In the final set, which was decided in a 10-point super tiebreaker, Miller and Mays got the 10-8 win to clinch the title.
The win followed a trio of wins on the week to advance to the finals. In the first round of play, Mays and Miller defeated the tournament's second-seeded team of Lorraine Guillermo and Kennedy Shaffer to advance in the main draw. Following that win, the pair won a three-set match over Keisha Clousing and Emma Davis.
In the semifinals on Friday afternoon, Mays and Miller recorded a 6-2, 7-5 win over Emerald Able and Sophie Abrams.
