Texas Tech Basketball is back in the Big Apple, looking to end its three-game losing streak.
But the match-up against top-ranked Louisville at Madison Square Garden is much more significant for Coach Beard. The Jimmy V Classic is named after Coach Jimmy Valvano, who died of cancer at 47.
"The things that Coach Valvano did in basketball, winning a national championship, speaks for itself," Beard said. "But his platform in life with cancer research and awareness is so much bigger than basketball. We feel that way about this game. We are honored and proud to be apart of it and we'll do everything we can to represent West Texas and Texas Tech and our program."
Tech and Louisville tip off at 6 p.m. CST Tuesday on ESPN. You can listen to the game on Double T 97.3.
