Some pilots went back to school this week.
The Civil Air Patrol held a flight academy to train pilots how to act in emergency situations.
They learned how to properly execute a search and rescue, find a downed aircraft and take photographs of natural disasters.
"Our civil air patrol squadron is growing rapidly," Rob Hogan, Lubbock composite squadron, said. "We have lots of new pilots that we're trying to get on-boarded, and we're preparing to be able to offer cadet orientation flights, search and rescue and disaster relief here in this local area."
The lessons were held at Lubbock Aero. The last time a training academy like this was held in Lubbock was in 1987.
