Program Record Five Red Raiders Selected for All-Region Teams

Posted: Updated:

The United Soccer Coaches voted a program-record five Texas Tech student-athletes onto its All-Midwest Region Teams Monday. The Red Raiders were led by a program-record three First Team selections.

Leading the First Team were both of Tech's Big 12 "Of the Year" award winners. Kirsten Davis, named the third Offensive Player of the Year in school history, was voted as one of the top four forwards in the Midwest. Davis led the conference in scoring through the Big 12 Championship, totaling 16 goals and six assists for 38 points. The mark tied Janine Beckie for the second-most points in a single season in program history. She also tied the program record for game-winning goals with six, and her 16 total goals were just two from the school record.
Davis, as she has throughout a very decorated awards season for the junior, called attention to the team rather than herself.
"I'm honored to be a part of this list," she said. "I definitely look at this as a team award, and seeing how many Tech people are on this list just shows how well-rounded we are and how special this team is."
Madison White, the Big 12's Freshman of the Year, was also named to the First Team to continue what is officially the most decorated freshman campaign of any Red Raider in program history. White's heroics in net netted her the title of the Big 12's top freshman, a conference-record five Big 12 Player of the Week awards, two National Goalkeeper of the Week awards and a National Player of the Week award. She is the first Red Raider goalkeeper ever to be named All-Region.
White tallied six shutouts while owning a 0.64 GAA through the Big 12 season, second only to fellow Tech keeper Marissa Zucchetto, whom she replaced against No. 22 USF in September before becoming the starter.
Cassie Hiatt became the second defender in Tech history to make First Team All-Region, joining Jaelene Hinkle, who did so in 2013. Hiatt, a Preseason All-Big 12 defender, played in 20 games as a sophomore. The center back's presence on the back line led Tech to a conference-leading 10 shutouts through Big 12 Tournament play. Her back line allowed just 18 goals all season – the lowest in the conference.
For Hiatt, the honor is a reflection of the chemistry that exists within the team. Necessary for a successful team, the chemistry was especially important for a back line that had never played together before.
"This season was amazing," Hiatt said. "With chemistry never before seen in this program, we were able to develop and have record-breaking success. This is why we are able to be recognized with awards like these."
For the first time in her career, Jordie Harr was recognized as an All-Region selection, making the Second Team. Harr's award comes after scoring two goals and two assists in her first season back from ACL injury. Though counting for just 12 of Tech's 123 points on the season, Harr was invaluable in facilitating the Tech attack, continuously threatening on crosses and passes into the box.
"It was so fun to be a part of our offense this season," said Harr, whose offense ranked second in the Big 12 in scoring with 48 goals. "I am so blessed to be a part of this team. What an incredible honor this is."

All-Big 12 Freshman Hannah Anderson was the program-record fifth Red Raider voted All-Midwest, joining the Third Team as a defender. She joins Hinkle as one of two Red Raider defenders to earn the distinction as freshmen. Anderson was the only freshman on the roster to start in all 22 games and was one of two players (Davis) overall to make the starting lineup every match. Aside from joining Hiatt to shut out 10 teams, the Plano native scored four goals, including three on penalty kicks.
To Anderson, the awards serve as a reason for even more excitement at what the young team can accomplish next season.
"I am so honored to be a part of a team that has allowed me to get to where I am today," Anderson said. "I'm surrounded by a competitive environment every day, and I can't wait to see what's in store for our team next year."
