LUBBOCK COUNTY, Texas -

Two people were arrested after trying to break into a home late Sunday night.

Police responded to shots fired near 42nd street and Utica Ave. Police report four men tried breaking into the home by kicking in the door when they were met by the victim's dogs. The dogs ran outside the home after two suspects who were running away to a black SUV, according to police.

Police say at least one of the suspects began shooting at the dogs while both suspects got into the SUV and drove off, striking a parked car. The two other suspects fled on foot, according to police.

Officers found Jazavier Traylor, 18, and Davyante Spence, 19 coming out of a nearby alley. Spence, who was grazed by one of the rounds aimed at the dogs, had moderate injuries. He was taken to the hospital where he was later cleared.

Police found a stolen gun near the alley. Police report Traylor also tried to conceal narcotics in the backseat of a patrol car.

Traylor and Spence were both arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation, possession of a stolen firearm and tampering with evidence. Traylor faces an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance.
