THIS AFTERNOON: Just a nasty, windy day. Much of the area has gusted to 50mph, with several locations peaking at 55 to 60 mph. It was worse up in the Panhandle. Thankfully, the wind will diminish soon.
Much of the country is dealing with nasty weather. More info in this story. And, oh yeah...another big storm is just now moving on the West Coast, heading east.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear, NW wind around 18mph this evening will drop closer to 5mph by morning. Low temp in the mid 20s.
WET WEATHER: Wednesday start with a few clouds, then clouds will quickly build in from the south. Overcast in the afternoon, high temp near 40. Wind E/SE 5-15mph.
Rain may start by mid-afternoon in Lubbock, more likely along Highway 180 from Hobbs to Snyder. Rain is more likely across the area Wednesday evening through Thursday morning. Most, if not all, of our area should get some rain.
The big question is whether any of this will be freezing precipitation. At this point it still looks like Lubbock will mainly get rain. One thing, over the years we've seen it's tough to get a precip changeover with a SE wind here. Not to say it can't be done. It is still possible we get some rain that falls as rain then starts to make a brief icy glaze on at least bridges.
It's more likely we get some freezing rain, sleet or light snow to the northwest, around Muleshoe, Earth and Dimmitt. This is early on Thanksgiving. The morning low Thursday will be around 32 in Lubbock.
The showers will end in the morning Thursday, but the clouds should stick around. It'll be a cold day, high near 44, wind SE 5-15mph.
LOOKING AHEAD: Friday will turn windy and warmer, slight chance for a shower. There may even be a few storms farther east, off of the Caprock.
Saturday will also be windy.
Next week looks sunny and warmer.
TEXAS TECH: Rain is likely on Thanksgiving and Friday in Austin. The thunder potential is higher late Friday and Saturday. Tech and Texas will kick off in the upper 60s, ending the game in the mid 70s. Bring the rain gear, it'll likely rain at some point during the game.
Have a great rest of your day. I'll have the latest data on this approaching storm tonight on FOX34 News at Nine. Bobby will have the next update posted here early tomorrow.
