For the second time this season, junior libero Emerson Solano was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league Monday. The award is the second of her career.
Solano finished the week with a pair of double-digit dig matches and led the Big 12 with 34 digs through nine sets. She opened the week with an 18-dig performance to help the Red Raiders to their second win over Iowa State this season – the first time since 2004 that Tech has swept the season series.
She returned to the court later in the week and produced a match-leading 16 digs in Tech's key, five-set victory at TCU. She collected three assists in the contest to help Tech to its seventh Big 12 win of the season, marking the most league wins the Red Raiders have collected since 2001.
Solano's 18 digs against Iowa State tied for fourth in the league in four-setters this week and her 16 digs against TCU ranked fourth in five-set matches. Heading into the week, Solano ranks second among all Big 12 student-athletes with 445 digs and third with 4.01 digs per set.
