Warm and sunny, then changes before Thanksgiving
Meteorologist Bobby Johnston said today will be warm with a high of 69 degrees with a southeast wind of 5-10 mph. Temperatures will drop Wednesday night and could bring some freezing rain early Thanksgiving day.
City breaks ground on first police substation
The city broke ground for the East Lubbock police substation located on East 19th and MLK. It is the first of three substations set to be throughout the city. It is part of the city's efforts to increase community oriented policing aimed at making neighborhoods safer and building trust between police and citizens. For the full story: click here.
Citizens Tower now powered, prepping for move-in
Construction on Citizens Tower is moving into its final phases. The building is now on permanent electrical power. The next step will be commissioning life safety systems and elevator inspections. Once those are complete, employees will start moving in starting with data and communications centers. The tower will hold more than 450 employees once it is filled.
Eight women subjected to sexual harassment at McDonald's
A McDonald's franchisee in our area will pay $340,000 to settle a federal sexual harassment lawsuit. The claims are eight women were subjected to sexual harassment under Credle Enterprises, which operates the McDonald's in Muleshoe, Hereford, and Littlefield. Of the payment, $240,000 will go to the eight victims and Federal Judge Wes Hendrix ordered training for all employees over the next four years.
Suspected cop-killer could face death penalty
A District Judge is leaving the death penalty on the table for the defendant accused of killing a Texas Tech Police Officer two years ago. Tech P.D. arrested Hollis Daniels on October 9, 2017 after a welfare check at his apartment. Court records show Floyd East Junior was doing paperwork, while Daniels was in the briefing room without cuffs. Police said Daniels pulled a gun and shot Officer East in the back of the head. The latest ruling clears the way for a trial date and jury selection to begin in the capital murder case.
Jodey Arrington announces re-election run
Lubbock Congressman Jodey Arrington will run for re-election. He was first elected in 2016 to represent Texas' 19th Congressional District. He said he wants to keep fighting for the families of West Texas. As of now, Arrington does not face any Republican primary challengers.
