LUBBOCK, Texas -

Organizations across East Lubbock came together Saturday morning to donate hundreds of turkeys to families in need this holiday season.

Tiger Pratt, one of the individuals who helped put this event together, said they actually exceeded their donation amount to about 550 turkeys, adding every family deserves to have happiness this time of year.

"We know the holiday season is upon us -- Thanksgiving and Christmas. People are going to go through some hardships, and sometimes it can happen in the middle and the heart of the holiday season. So we wanted to make sure we can help certain families who might be in need at this time," Pratt said.

Ashone Johnson is another person who helped facilitate this donation drive, saying one blessing, such as giving away a turkey, can go a long way for creating unity.

"It doesn't matter how many times you fail, it only takes one great time to succeed, and I think this is a great opportunity everybody to love and hug on each other, and it's just a happy Thanksgiving. We're grateful," Johnson said.

That togetherness is the mission of this turkey drive, and the event planner, Tyrone Moore, said donation drives like this should not just be for the holiday season.

"It doesn't matter about race, it doesn't matter about what organization you're with, but it's about people. This is about humanity. We just wanted come together for the good of humanity and promote that," Moore said.
