Man critically injured, two arrested in suspected drug deal in central Lubbock

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Police arrested two people following a shooting Monday evening near 45th Street and Boston Avenue. Police believe four people were meeting for a drug deal.

Responding officers found James Aragon, 34, lying in the street with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. 

Investigators report Joe Escamilla, 24, Bryan Ivey, 29, Aragon and another man met for a drug deal. Police say Aragon tried to rob Escamilla at gunpoint; Escamilla then shot Aragon.

According to police, further investigation showed the gun Escamilla used was stolen in 2017. He was arrested for possessing the stolen gun. Ivey was arrested for drug possession. Escamilla and Ivey were taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center.
