Lubbock Christian University celebrates "World Kindness Day"

LUBBOCK, Texas -

All it takes to make someone smile, is a random act of kindness, no matter how big or small the gesture is.

"Buying somebody's cup of coffee, tipping a waiter or waitress, or taking a trolley cart back at a grocery store affects not just that one person, but also somebody that they encounter later that day as well," Abby Williams, Student Involvement Coordinator at Lubbock Christian University said.

The university has celebrated World Kindness Day before, but this year was a little different.

50 coupons were handed out to students on Monday, each with a random act of kindness they were tasked to complete.

"Yesterday morning I woke up, and I was walking out of my dorm, and I had a little sticky note on my door that said you are loved," Paige Schneider, a freshman at LCU said. "It was nice, I wasn't really expecting it. It was a nice little surprise when I woke up."

"The card that got passed out to me just said 'go be encouraging to a stranger'. So I went up to a kid, who I didn't really know too well. He was into some really cool stuff that we actually have similarities in, " Calvin Dement added.

Once they completed their good deed, the students were encouraged to pass it on.

Some, inspired by the cards, came up with their own ways to be kind.

"My friend she sits desks for the dorms, and she sits from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, so she doesn't have a chance to go get lunch," Abbie Clark, a junior at LCU said."So I went and picked up lunch and brought it to her today, that way she could eat."

With finals soon, it helped them keep their spirits up and take some time to reflect.

"We can all help each other out and be good to each other, on a day like today, and hopefully from now on, " Josh Starr, a senior at LCU said.

"It just brightens people's day, honestly, and LCU doesn't have a problem with being kind. so, world kindness day just brings that to light, even more," Skyler Richardson, a junior at LCU, said.

World Kindness Day is celebrated every year, on November 13.
