RECORD COLD: It dropped to 15 in Lubbock this morning, smashing the previous record for this date of 19, reached in 2014. Records go back a little more than a century. Here are some other lows from the Texas Tech Mesonet:
THIS AFTERNOON: With plenty of sunshine it's warmed, relatively speaking, compared to yesterday and this morning. But it's still chilly this afternoon, with upper 30s to upper 40s across the area, warmest to the northwest.
TONIGHT: Clear and cold...but not nearly as cold as last night. Low near 28, wind S 5-15mph.
WEDNESDAY: Sunny and warmer, high 64. Wind SW 10-18mph becoming northerly late in the day. That northerly wind is the next cold front moving across the area.
LOOKING AHEAD: Thursday will be a little cooler behind tomorrow evening's weak front. Mid 50s Thursday. We expect lots of sun next several days.
Even though Friday won't be too cold in the afternoon, the playoff football games will have the temperature dropping into the 40s.
Saturday early morning will be cold for tailgating. But the Tech game itself will kick in the 50s, reaching the mid 60s by the end of the game. Next week should start a little bit warmer.
Have a great rest of your day. Bobby will have a full update to the forecast here early tomorrow.
