LUBBOCK, Texas -

The silent wings museum brought in a special guest to speak at its Veterans Day celebration.

Jack Woodville London, a veteran, and director of writing education for the Military Writers Society of America spoke about why he believes veterans day is so important to our area, and why proper recognition needs to be given to past and present service members

"I think we had six from Lubbock, 36 from the Lubbock area and 82 from the upper panhandle and Abilene area, boys from all over Texas who were drafted and went into the army," London said. "They unflinchingly went into combat in America's first overseas war. They had signed up given a blank check with their lives and it was cashed."

London won the gold medal for book of the year in war and military fiction. He also teaches writing to veterans with post traumatic stress to help them tell their stories.
