LUBBOCK, Texas -

The department of transportation reports close to 40 percent of veterans live in areas where affordable transportation options are limited.

So progressive insurance is honoring more than 100 veterans with the gift of free transportation for veterans day.

The insurer's "Keys to Progress" program has chosen Lubbock as one of the major cities for its giveaway.

Sergeant Andrew Smetana and his family were chosen as the recipients of the new car.

"It feels great and it's amazing to know that people out her are generous and kind and willing to share," Smetana said. "More people need to know about this because this is gonna change lives."

This program is intended to provide reliable transportation so these vets can get back on the road and move forward in life.
