Snyder ISD admin to meet with TEA, school closure possible

SNYDER, Texas -

Three Snyder Independent School District administrators will meet with the Texas Education Agency Thursday to discuss its board of trustees and the possible closure of its junior high school.

Snyder ISD Superintendent Eddie Bland, Board of Trustees President Ralph Ramon and Board of Trustees Vice President Brad Hinton are scheduled to meet in Austin Thursday with Commissioner Mike Morath.

The district received a letter from Commissioner Morath Wednesday stating he intends to appoint a Board of Managers and a Conservator to the district.

It also states Dr. Bland may submit a petition to Commissioner Morath that reflects the majority of parents enrolled at Snyder Junior High want the school to close or have the board of managers installed. The petition must be submitted on or before Dec. 2.

However, the board of trustees may also request the commissioner take a different action in the parent petition but it must provide a written explanation of the basis for the board's request to the commissioner no later than Dec. 16.

In a statement, the district said it has received the required number of petitions to close the campus. Read the full statement below:

We did receive the required number of petitions to close the campus and are eager to discuss options with Commissioner tomorrow.
