LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Salvation Army is kicking off its biggest annual fundraiser this weekend.

The Red Kettle Campaign bell ringers will be accepting donations at local retail, grocery and shopping malls.

New machines, called dip jars, will be available at specific locations for those who do not have cash. All someone has to do is swipe a card to make a contribution.

"This year we have 1200 children who's families have applied for assistance so the Salvation Army will serve as a conduit to provide assistance through clothing, toys and those things for Christmas, and in fact make Christmas possible for these families," said David Worthy, commanding officer with the Salvation Army.

This marks the 127th year of the Red Kettle Campaign. The Salvation Army has set this year's goal at $250,000.
