LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Lady Raider basketball senior Brittany Brewer was one of 50 players nationally named to the Women's Citizen Naismith Trophy Watch List by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Wednesday.
The award is the latest preseason recognition for Brewer, who was one of 20 centers in the country to earn a spot on the Lisa Leslie Award Watch List last month. She was also named to the 2019-20 Preseason All-Big 12 Team in October.
Brewer averaged 16.6 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game in her junior season, on the way to earning honorable mention All-Big 12 recognition. The Abilene, Texas, native scored 20 or more points in 10 games and racked up 13 double doubles as a junior, ranking in the Top 25 nationally and leading the Big 12. Brewer posted a career-best 71 blocks on the season to lead the Big 12. Her 71 blocks also rank fifth in school history for blocks in a season while her 162 career blocks rank fifth in school history.
Brewer became the second Lady Raider in school history to be selected to compete for USA Basketball at the Pan American Games last summer. She also became the first Texas Tech women's basketball player to earn a medal at the event, helping lead the U.S. to a silver medal.
Overall, 10 Big 12 players made the list, ranking second among all conferences.
The midseason 30 team will be announced in early February, and then the competition will be narrowed down to 10 national semifinalists on March 3, 2020. Following those results, four finalists will be named on March 20, 2020, and the winner of the 2020 Citizen Naismith Trophy for Women's Player of the Year will be announced on April 4, 2020.
