Lubbock city council Tuesday recognized veterans support organizations for their efforts to commemorate service this weekend.
City leaders ask all Lubbock residents to show their appreciation for those who have served and those currently serving by leaving your porch light on from dusk Sunday until sunrise Tuesday.
"When we're deployed we don't have the luxury of light," VFW Commander Benny Guerrero said. "So every time we see a porch light on, on Veterans Day, then we know that those people really care. That they understand the sacrifice of those that are deployed forward and they remember that sacrifice."
City council asked the entire city come together to honor the sacrifices veterans have made to protect our freedoms.
