LUBBOCK, Texas -

Council members will evaluate plans to expand the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

City staffers say it's critical to upgrade and grow the facility so it can host bigger and better events.

They've chose Chapman Harvey Architects to do the first phase. The firm will look at the Civic Center's use to the city and evaluate some upgrades, including traffic flow and security.

From there, architects will visit Amarillo and Plano for inspiration draft their proposals and present it to the city.

This phase is expected to take about six months and cost more than $94,000.
