Keep the Porch Light On to commemorate service and sacrifice on Veteran's Day

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock city leaders and the Military Order of the Purple Heart ask the community in joining the Monument of Courage's Keep the Porch Light On.

To honor present military and our veterans the city wants residents to turn on their porch lights at sunset on Sunday, Nov. 10, and keep it on through sunrise on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

It's a way to commemorate service and sacrificed ahead of Veteran's Day. City Council will recognize support organizations and their efforts to leave the light on at Tuesday's meeting.

"Slow down and give consideration to our freedoms and all the things associated with our freedoms, and remember a veteran who stepped up to protect their homeland," Danny Koch, member of Friends of the Monument of Courage, said.

Anyone wishing to show support for this effort can attend Tuesday's council meeting in the Council Chambers at City Hall at 4:30 p.m.
