Several sunny days ahead, warmer late this weekend

Posted: Updated:

RECORD COLD: It was a very cold start this morning, down to 16 in Lubbock. This broke the previous record of the date, which was 20, set in 1991. It also set a new record low of the month of October, previous was 18 degrees set Oct. 30, 1993.

Here are some morning lows from the Texas Tech Mesonet:

Tatum 9
Sundown 10
Floydada 11
Muleshoe 11
Olton 11
Plains 11
Aiken 12
Dora 12
Levelland 12
Colorado City 13
Earth 13
Morton 13
Spur 13

Since then it's recovered into the upper 40s to mid 50s with plenty of sun. The pattern will stay pretty quiet next several days, and won't be nearly as cold.

TONIGHT: Cold, but not nearly as cold as last night. Low near 28, wind SW 5-10mph.

FRIDAY: High near 63, sunny. It'll be cooler north of the city, with the next cold front moving across the Panhandle into our area by the afternoon. High near 57 at Plainview. Wind W 10-15mph early will increase and shift out of the north by late afternoon.

For the First Friday Art Trail and the football games, it'll be chilly, with a gusty north wind early. 6 p.m. temperature near 54, dropping to the upper 30s by 10 p.m.

WEEKEND: Saturday will be cooler behind the front, high near 53, mostly sunny. Sunday will climb back to the upper 60s.

NEXT WEEK: It may turn a little cooler Tuesday. We're not certain that front will move across our area. We are seeing signs of some rain by Thursday or Friday, but nothing promising at this point.

Have a great rest of your day. Bobby will have a full update to the forecast here early tomorrow.
-Matt
