Lt. Gov. Patrick issues interim charges

Posted: Updated:

State senators have their homework leading up to the next session. Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick has given each committee a laundry list of tasks to study before January 2021.

One new priority is keeping vapes and e-cigarettes out of kids' hands.

The senate leader also wants lawmakers to study whether students with disabilities are properly protected, balancing it with a teacher's ability to keep order in a classroom.

The lieutenant governor has tasked three committees with studying ways to lower the cost of health.

In state affairs, he wants senators to take a hard look at taxpayer-funded lobbying. This is when a city or county uses your tax dollars to lobby state or federal lawmakers. This committee is also tasked with strengthening the state's dedication to the Second Amendment and protecting unborn children.
