Clouds clearing today, possible record lows tonight

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

Icy roads will continue this morning as temperatures stay below freezing with the mostly cloudy sky. It has been the overpasses that have been the issue this morning as the freeze over first. Drive cautiously and take your time getting to your destination. Click here for the current closures.

TODAY: The cloudy sky will start to break up later in the day with a clear sky this evening. Highs will again struggle staying in the 30s, some low 40s to our southern counties. Northerly wind increases 15-25mph making it feel like we are in the 20s through much of the day. Bundle up and again drive safely.

TONIGHT: Over the last couple of mornings we have had the cloud cover to keep temperatures up some. Clouds diminish with a clear sky tonight, and temperatures plummet to the teens and 20s. Wind chills in the single digits with a calmer northerly wind. Areas with precipitation on the roads will refreeze with slick spots possible in the morning.

HALLOWEEN: It will still be chilly, but a sunny day with the high near 52. For the kids out that evening temperatures will drop off to the 40s, then 30s after 9pm so bundle up!

EXTENDED: We continue to warm to the 60s Friday, then another front knocks us down to the 50s Saturday. Some high clouds, but overall lots of sunshine into next week. Highs climb to the 70s to start next week.

Stay bundled up today! Matt with the latest updated forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
