Enjoy today, colder with showers and a strong wind Thursday

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Enjoy this nice day with lots of sunshine. High near 77, a weak front will move in our northern counties with highs in the low 70s. Wind shifting from the west to the northwest through the day 10-15mph.

TONIGHT: A second surge of cold air move in overnight increasing the wind speeds 12-22mph from the northeast. Low near 41, it will feel much colder with the stronger wind.

THURSDAY: Cloud cover will increase overnight with some showers possible through the day. Temperatures will be dropping during the day, so the high of 51 will likely be early on. Wind speeds will stay around 15-30mph for a windy day. As temperatures drop there might be some area where precipitation changes to snow to our northern counties. Light accumulations of snow might be possible in some areas, but trace amounts more likely. Higher snow fall with a few inches in the northern Panhandle.

FRIDAY: Models are agreeing that cloud cover and precipitation starts to clear the area early on. Frigid temperatures in the morning with a breezy northeast wind, calmer wind with the high near 55. Cold night for Friday night football!

EXTENDED: Sunny with a quick warm up Saturday, then uncertainty to start next week. Another front will push through at some point with one models bringing cold air in by Sunday, another keeps us warmer. Both are keeping this front dry with a mostly sunny sky.

Have a great Wednesday! Matt with the next updated forecast tonight on the News at Nine after game 2.
