LUBBOCK, Texas -

From VetStar Specialty Health System:

StarCare Specialty Health System (StarCare) is pleased to be selected as a recipient of the Disabled Veterans National Veteran Foundation's (DVNF) $25,000 Capacity Building Grant. This partnership with the DVNF continues StarCare's commitment to serving those who have served by providing access and support for our local heroes.

Mental health services in rural communities, particularly among veterans and their families, is a pressing public health concern. This award will go toward VetStar's Communities in Courage program which provides transitional services for South Plains veterans and their families in Lubbock and the surrounding 21 counties.

The grant will expand access to mental health services for veterans including, but not limited to, transportation to and from Department of Veteran Affairs Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) treatment facilities, staff certification in Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing training and evidence-based complementary and alternative therapies.

Greg Gittner, VetStar director, says this award is a monumental opportunity to provide aid and care for local veterans.

"StarCare and VetStar are grateful to the Disabled Veteran National Foundation for this award," Gittner said. "We thank them for selecting us to steward their commitment to serving those who have served and we are looking forward to this partnership to expand mental health services for veterans of the South Plains."
