THIS AFTERNOON: It's a sunny fall day with the temperature near 70 across much of our area, mid 70s farther south from Gail to Snyder. There's a light south wind across the region, keeping it pretty mild, with 60s all the way up to Denver and Kansas City. We have another mild day before it turns much colder late this week.
TONIGHT: Mainly clear, low near 45. Wind S/SW 7-12mph.
TOMORROW: Sunny and mild, high near 79. Wind W/NW 10-15mph.
COLDER WEATHER: A strong front will move across the area tomorrow night. The north wind will kick up 20-30mph. The low Thursday morning will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s, but will feel colder with the wind.
It'll stay windy for most of the day Thursday. High temp only in the upper 40s to lower 50s, cloudy. As an upper-level storm system approaches, it'll bring support for a few showers in the area. Right now it looks like a chance for rain in Lubbock Thursday afternoon into early Friday morning. Low in Lubbock around 32. Because it'll get that cold, we couldn't rule out a few snow flakes mixing in, but it looks like mainly rain here.
To the northwest of Lubbock, around Muleshoe to Plainview to Amarillo, it'll be a few degrees colder, where a wintry mix is possible. But it's not a great chance for any kind of showers, and amounts will be light.
All this is to say there could be some wintry precip mixed in around Lubbock, but we're mainly expecting just rain. Even where it may snow farther north, amounts should be light and we don't anticipate any major problems.
LOOKING AHEAD: It'll be milder this weekend, with upper 60s both days and lots of sun.
Have a great rest of your day. Bobby will have an update to the late-week forecast here early tomorrow.
