Guyger's legal team files intent to appeal murder conviction

Guyger's legal team files intent to appeal murder conviction

DALLAS, TX -

The former Dallas Police Officer convicted of murdering an unarmed man in his own home plans to appeal her case.

Attorneys for Amber Guyger filed notice to appeal both her murder conviction and her 10 year sentence. She murdered Botham Jean last year when she entered his home by mistake and thought he was a burglar.

The appeal could be delayed by a series of contempt hearings involving the Dallas County District Attorney.

He gave a media interview before the trial in violation of a gag order. This notice of intent to appeal is only procedural and gives the attorneys three more months to file an actual appeal.

It is no guarantee they'll get a hearing.
