Scott, Red Raiders Make Moves On Monday

WINDERMERE, Florida – Texas Tech senior Sandy Scott made his second-round surge by shooting a 66 at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational on Monday to help the Red Raiders move up to a tie for second going into Tuesday's final round at the Isleworth Golf & Country Club. The Red Raiders, who are currently the top-ranked team in the Golfweek Collegiate Rankings with a 68.47 rating, will complete the tournament on Tuesday with one more round. 

Scott is at 6-under-par for the tournament and second individually after posting a 72-66 – 138 through two days at the team's final fall event. He made eight birdies on Monday, including shooting 5-under on the front 9. A Scotland native who opened the season by winning The Carmel Cup and then competed in the Walker Cup, Scott is only one stroke back of Finigan Tilly (Cal) who leads the tournament with a 67-70 – 137.

Tech will go into Tuesday's final round chasing Central Florida which owns a 17-shot lead. The Red Raiders have posted 291-281 – 572 (4-under), while UCF is at 21-under after posting 280-275 through two days. Vanderbilt is tied with Tech after shooting 293-279, while LSU and Cal are both at 2-under.

Kyle Hogan is currently in 11th individually for the Red Raiders at 3-under (71-70 – 141) and Andy Lopez and Ludvig Aberg are both at 3-over and tied for 34th. Garrett Martin shot a 73 on Monday and is a shot back at 4-over through two rounds.

Scott leads the tournament with 13 birdies, while Hogan has 10 going into the final round. Texas Tech is 3-0 this fall with tournament titles at The Carmel Cup, Iverness Intercollegiate and sweeping through the Big 12 Match Play. The Red Raiders are currently No. 2 in the Golfstat ratings and No. 4 in the Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll. Tech has matched the program record with three wins in a season already just three tournaments in. The team will return to action after Florida in February with its spring opener in Hawaii.

Along with the Tavistock, Texas Tech was represented by Jansen SmithJamie Stewart and Markus Braadlie as individuals at the Little Rock Invitational. Braadlie is in third place after shooting 70-71 – 141 during his two rounds on Monday, while Smith is at 2-over with a 70-74 on his scorecard. Stewart shot 72-75 – 145 and goes into Tuesday in 25th overall at the event.

Tech received four first-place votes in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll that was released on Friday, the most of any program outside of Georgia Tech which is the top-ranked team in the nation with 19 first-place votes. The Yellow Jackets rose to the top spot after being ranked No. 2 last week. They are followed by Wake Forest, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Pepperdine in the top-5.
