Kids trade hospital gowns for Halloween costumes

Kids at Covenant Children's got a break from treatment, with a bit of trick-or-treating instead.

"Well he thinks he's a little super hero, which he kind of is, but ya he went right for Captain America today," Heather Gentry, Wyatt's mother said.

Hospital gowns to Halloween costumes, Spirit Halloween hosted a party for pediatric patients and their families.

"It lets a child who normally doesn't get to be out trick or treating and doing Halloween events come into this environment. We've supplied the costumes, arts and crafts, fun things people can actually enjoy and feel like they're out in the world of Halloween out in society," Janet Mlynski, Spirit Halloween Lubbock zone manager said.

Kids got to take a break from treatment and celebrate Halloween.

"They're able to come down here, play, make things, and just have fun. It's just a distraction from the rest of the time that they're here," Dr. Amy Thompson, Covenant Children's CEO said.

"It's nice to be able to get away from the every day of the IV's and port needles and things like that, be able to come down, have fun, be a little super hero, be a kid," Gentry said.

These superheros are the reason for these events.

"It's the spirit of these children who really inspire us to continue to raise money and partner locally with the community to really help these kids prosper," Trent Tibbit, Spirit Halloween district sales manager said.

Money collected for Spirit of Children comes back to the Hospital to help with needs year round, not just on Holidays.

"They do all kinds of activities and do therapy with them, bring toys, everything that I think makes healing much better," Dr. Thompson said.

The Spirit of Children program has assisted in hiring additional child life staff, extending operation hours, and purchasing educational and entertainment items. To help support Covenant Children's Child Life Department, purchase costumes here. Attached is a 10% off coupon you can use.
