LUBBOCK, Texas -

The City of Lubbock received at $2 million donation Tuesday to help in its plans for the redevelopment of McAlister Park.

Donor and developer George McMahan has been invested in development of Milwaukee Ave. The area includes Legacy Play Village and the surrounding baseball fields.

McMahan is encouraging other city businesses, leaders and philanthropists to donate and help get the project rolling.

"It's gonna take the city 10 or 15 years to fully develop it. If we could get some good solid donations early on, we could do it a lot sooner. It's gonna be a great regional draw for this whole area," he said. "It'll bring people from out of town into Lubbock to enjoy the amenities of the park. Plus be a great park for Lubbock citizens."

The city has owned McAlister Park for 37 years. The plans for redevelopment were announced by City Councilman Randy Christian earlier this year.
