LUBBOCK, Texas -

Texas Tech's Office of LGBTQIA Education and Engagement kicked off its fifth annual Pride Week Monday.

Throughout this week the office will host programs, trainings, film screenings and a gala for students and the public to attend.

Texas Tech is now ranked nationally in the top 50 universities for its LGBTQIS inclusion. Tech is up 23 spots from last year according to Campus Pride Index.

Director of the Office of LGBTQIA Education and Engagement Jody Randall said three years ago, that wasn't the case.

"We've made a lot of progress. There are sill challenges like there are anywhere. Texas Tech is a very large, diverse institution and so is West Texas. But by and far, we're an affirming community," Randall said.

The office also serves as a resource for students not a part of the LGBTQIA community to practice allyship.
