Legacy Play Village demolition is fast approaching; fundraising efforts for new playground to begin

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

'Legacy Play Village' was community built and funded and for 17 years it's served its purpose. Now, it is closed down to go through a much needed renovation hoping to offer a new legacy for all ages to enjoy. For many Lubbock resident's it brings back childhood memories.

For nearly four years managers of the playground decided that it was time for a new fresh look. A committee was formed and for the last 18 months its been working to bring new life to this beloved park.

"In a couple of weeks we are actually going to tear the playground down," said Zoe Metcalf, project committee member. "We won't tear down the whole property, something will be retained, but the playground structure itself will be torn down and removed so we can start fresh."

After the final design is approved, the fundraising portion of the project will begin.

"We plan for it to take about 12 months to raise the money and to marshal the volunteers that we will need for the process," said Metcalf. "The build will start in mid-September of next year."

Right now, volunteers are needed for fundraising efforts. As the project moves further along volunteers can help with the construction phase. The building portion is expected to begin next September. The grand opening of the new and redefined playground will be November 1st 2020. If you'd like to volunteer and be a part of this project click here.
