MEDINAH, Ill. –Texas Tech junior women's golfer Sofia Garcia recorded her third top-five finish in as many tournaments as the Red Raiders concluded the Illini Invitational in eighth place at 8-over par in Medinah, Illinois.
"I like the direction we are headed as a team," head coach JoJo Robertson said. We haven't played our best golf yet, but it's getting close. It is always good to see Sofia [Garcia] finish under par and near the lead."
The Red Raiders entered Tuesday's round in sixth place and just four shots back of third place at 2-over. Tech fell behind early on in the final round, but bounced back and finished the day with 14 team birdies.
Sofia Garcia once again led the way for the Red Raiders, as she chronicled her third-consecutive top-five finish to begin her junior campaign as she racked up five birdies of her own to complete her day at 2-under and 5-under overall. Amy Taylor, who notched a top-11 finish to begin the season at the Trinity Forest Invitational, finished the Illini Invitational in a tie for 24th at 2-over. Anna Dong was just one shot back of Taylor at 3-over.
Louisa Brunt shot 4-over on Tuesday to tie for 50th at 8-over for the tournament. Gala Dumezfinished her day with two birdies to tie for 76th at 15-over.
The Red Raiders will return to action for the fourth of five fall tournaments at the Jim West Challenge, beginning Oct. 20th.
