LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock County Judge Curtis Parrish says it's time to close the chapter on NAAG Pathology Labs running the Lubbock County Medical Examiner's Office.

Commissioners accepted the resignation of Dr. Sam Andrews, effective Monday.

Commissioners announced Dr. John Lang as the new acting chief medical examiner. Dr. Lang says he wants to start fresh as office administrator.

"I intentionally didn't look at the news," Dr. Lang said. "Because it doesn't matter. That's all water under the bridge, that's in the past. We're starting fresh and we're going to do it right. And I make a promise to the citizens of Lubbock I will do my very best to to take care of them and their families and provide the very best service possible."

Parrish hopes moving forward with Dr. Lang will help instill confidence back into the office.

"And that was my charge to him going forward. Is to be available, be open, be communicative as much as he can," Parrish said. "And to make sure that people have that confidence in their medical examining office so that we don't run into the issues that we've had in the past."

Lang will serve an administrative role. As for performing autopsies, Tarrant County will handle forensic pathology services. Parrish says it is common for many counties in Texas to use the services of larger counties to handle criminal investigations.
