LUBBOCK, Texas -

More than 500 students at Harwell Elementary started adding to their personal library.

The non-profit Books are the Beginning donated more than 3,500 books to the kids. It's part of a partnership with United to encourage continued practice of students reading and comprehension skills outside of the classroom.

"Because we realize books, as our name says, books are the beginning of an education," Founder Mike Thrasher said. "You've got to be able to read to math, to do science, to do any subjects. So we want the children to have the resources at home to help them practice reading."

Students in every grade were given books. United Family team members participated by reading to each class.

Thursday's delivery was the first of six taking place throughout this school year.
