Rain this evening, big temperature range in area Thursday

Posted: Updated:

MORE RAIN: Like the past few days, the rain isn't widespread across the area. But where it is raining, it is pouring. Today's line of showers and storms is set up a little farther east, which is including Lubbock. Here is FOX34 VIPIR:

We expect some more showers and storms through the evening, moving from SW to NE. Some of these will be able to produce a quick 1/2" to 1" of rain.

TONIGHT: Cloudy, low near 67. Wind S 5-15mph.

THURSDAY: This is a tricky forecast, with a cold front edging in from the north. A couple days ago it looked like the front would make it south of Lubbock and bring lots of rain here. Now, it looks like the front will be up around Amarillo during the morning, edging a little farther south during the afternoon.

Lots of rain is expected along I-40 up in the Panhandle. We have just a chance for a shower or storm late in the day. The front will have colder air behind it.

Lubbock should top out in the mid to upper 70s. Only 60s around Clovis and Dimmitt, with upper 80s Gail and Snyder. If the front makes it a little farther south, then Lubbock will be cooler. Confidence is low on where exactly the front will wind up.

LOOKING AHEAD: Friday looks drier, maybe just a few isolated showers or storms. High near 79.

This weekend will clear out and will turn warmer. Mid 80s on Saturday. Expect lots of sun for the Oklahoma State-Texas Tech game, kickoff in the upper 70s.

There is a slight chance for a shower or storm Sunday night, as another front moves through.

Behind that front will be cooler and drier air. It's been so humid past few weeks it just hasn't cooled down much at night. Next week we expect low to mid 50s at night, with the high near 70 Monday. It'll turn warmer by mid-week.

Have a great rest of your day. Bobby will have a full update to the forecast posted here early tomorrow.
