Tech Baseball Holds First Fall Practice of 2019

Posted: Updated:

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech baseball team held its first practice of the fall on Tuesday afternoon inside Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.

The Red Raiders return 22 letterwinners from last year's 46-win team that earned the program's fourth trip to the College World Series in six years. Tech also finished the season matching the school's highest final ranking at No. 4 after securing the Big 12 championship behind a 16-8 conference mark and deepest run in Omaha in program history.

The 2020 season will mark the eighth under head coach Tim Tadlock, who garnered ABCA/Diamond Midwest Regional Coach of the Year last season. In his seven seasons, Tech has recorded five 45+ win seasons, three Big 12 titles and is the only school to host an NCAA Regional four straight years.

Freshman All-Americans Micah Dallas and Clayton Beeter headline a platoon of talented returners. Dallas, a right-hander from Aubrey, Texas, posted a 7-2 record in 13 starts, earning a spot on the Big 12 All-Freshman Team. Beeter, a right-hander from Colleyville, Texas, posted a 3.48 ERA with 40 strikeouts in 20.2 innings.

Other All-Big 12 Team honorees returning include senior infielder Brian Klein and junior outfielder Dylan Neuse, who were both second team selections. Additionally, catcher/designated hitter Cole Stilwell returns after earning Big 12 All-Freshman Team honors in 2019, while John McMillon is back for his senior year after being picked in the 11th round by the Detroit Tigers.

Highlighting the fall schedule is a trip to Frisco, Texas, on October 4-6 to take part in the Texas Rangers Futures Camp, where they'll take on roughly 40 minor leaguers from the Rangers' farm system in a pair of matchups at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Tech's fall slate will wrap up with the annual Red and Black Series. Dates and times will be announced as the fall season continues.
