LUBBOCK, Texas -

Texas Tech's Rawls College of Business received $500,000 from First Bank & Trust to grow the next generation of bankers.

It's part of a partnership with First Bank & Trust dedicated to the Excellence in Banking Program. It'll go towards scholarships, internships, coursework and extracurriculars.

First Bank & Trust President Greg Garland said banking is a growing industry and the program will fill the need for college ready students.

"It was really a no-brainer for us to be able to step up and say hey this is something that we want to do and be able to contribute and perpetuate college ready graduates who can come into the industry and make a difference immediately," he said.

The program will start with 20 students. Dean Margaret Williams hopes to double the amount of students in the future.
