DALLAS, TX -

A Texas Tech legend was laid to rest Monday in Dallas.

Andre Emmett was gunned down outside his home a week ago. He was sitting in his car when two men walked up to him and tried robbing him.

Emmett fought with them and ran. The gunman shot him in the back. A passer-by found Emmett a few hundred feet away. He died at the hospital.

His family members say Dray will be remembered most for his charity. The "Dreams Really Exist" organization in his name provides athletic and educational opportunities for low income families.

Emmett's work at Texas Tech is enshrined as the all time leading scorer in program history. He took the team to the NCAA Tournament twice.

The All-American was named a Big 12 All-Conference First Team Member three times before going to the summer leagues and the Big Three.

Andre Emmett was 37.
