Chance for rain next several days

Chance for rain next several days

Posted: Updated:

THIS AFTERNOON: It's hot again, with 90s across much of our area, even some upper 90s farther east off of the Caprock. It's mostly sunny around our area. An isolated shower or storm could pop up late this afternoon into this evening, but it looks like the good rain chance will hold off until later tonight.

For the high school football games it'll be hot for week five of the season. Near 90 heading out to the games, dropping to the upper 70s by the end of tonight's games. Sunset in Lubbock is 7:37. Just a slight chance for a storm during the evening.

TONIGHT: Cloudy with showers and storms moving in from the southwest. Some storms will produce heavy rain. Low near 66. The good chance for storms runs from late tonight through Saturday morning.

WEEKEND: A strong upper-level storm system is dropping out of Canada into the northwestern United States. This will set up several days in a row with some rain across our region. This pattern will linger into next week.

A few more showers or storms are possible Saturday afternoon, though the best chance is early in the morning. Mostly cloudy, high near 85 Saturday. Wind gusty from the S/SE 12-22mph.

Sunday will be similar, a humid and mild morning. By the afternoon high near 83, mostly cloudy and breezy. There is a chance for rain and storms again on Sunday.

It's not going to rain all weekend. And not everyone in our area will get rain. But whenever it does rain, it'll likely pour, because we have so much humidity in place.

NEXT WEEK: The rain chance will trend higher Tuesday and Wednesday. There is at least a chance for a shower or storm through most of next week. The risk for flooding will trend a little bit higher by mid-week. But, again, like we saw earlier this week, a single storm can produce enough rain to cause flooded streets.

Once all is said and done, over the next week, much of our area will pick up at least an inch of rain. There is the potential for 2" to 4" totals in some locations.

TEXAS TECH: There is a slight chance for a shower or storm during the game. Kickoff near 79, climbing to the mid 80s by the end of the game. Gusty wind out of the south 15-20mph.

Have a great weekend. Robert will have an update to the forecast posted here Saturday afternoon.
