Hot rest of the week, rain chances return this weekend

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

TODAY: Another hot one with highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s. A light southwest wind will bring some drier air into the area, but there still might be an isolated shower or storm to develop later in the afternoon. Again, like yesterday not much in coverage of storms if they develop.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear with the lows dropping to the 60s and low 70s.

REST OF THE WEEK: No major changes in our area with a few isolated showers and storms possible, but no good chance for widespread rain. It will stay hot with the upper 80s and low 90s continuing.

CHANGES ON THE WAY: A strong low across the Pacific northwest bringing a major cool down, while a ridge of high pressure will bring very hot temperatures across much of the eastern states. We will end up between these two storm systems increasing the pacific moisture across our region. Models are in a little disagreement on where the better moisture will end up. One has it over us bringing possible widespread rain, where as another has it to our west in New Mexico. This will be something we will keep you updated with as we get closer. Temperatures do seem to drop back to the lower to mid 80s going into next week.

Have a great Wednesday! Matt with the next updated forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
