SCHOVANEC: 'time to focus on faculty and construction' following Vet School ground breaking

LUBBOCK, Texas -

During Texas Tech's State of the System Luncheon, University President Lawrence Schovanec said it's time to focus on faculty and construction.

Some other projects ongoing across the system include spreading the university's presence across Texas, like teaching classes in Austin.

Chancellor Tedd Mitchell said leadership will focus on reducing the burdens of student debt.

"We want to make sure when the students leave our universities enough debt that it's going to drive them towards certain career paths that otherwise they may not want to choose," he said, "or that they graduate with so much debt they'll never be able to pay it off."

He added mental health as the Health Sciences Center will be a priority this year, focusing on veterans and children in our area.
